What kind of OCT is this?
-
The Millennium Tide is an elimination tournament with 32 slots in it's starting roster and will go on for 5 rounds.
-
-
How we’re judging:
-
We’ll be judging your entry based on how well the characters, narrative, and dialogue are written, as well as the passion put into the art direction and style of your work.
-
During the judging process we’ll be taking individual notes on your entry and then coming together for a vote to decide the winner!
-
-
How do you enter?
-
First, create a reference for your character, this should include:
-
Front and back full body views of your character, in full color (rendering is optional, providing a clear palette is necessary)
-
Their name, height, and pronouns
-
Any strengths, weaknesses, or abilities they have
(It’s heavily preferred this information not be written into something like a google doc- as it makes later archiving character information difficult. Website builders such as Caard or Wix are allowed.)
-
-
Next, create a comic/video audition of your original character entering the ruins.
-
It has to at least establish your character and their motivation, then end with your character entering the ruins (just outside of the setting for round 1: the Sunken Graveyard).
-
-
Lastly, you’ll need to design a jolly roger to represent your OC!
-
This should be a 2-colored or black-and-white logo with a simple, readable design that captures some element relating to your character- whether that be your character’s skull with crossbones or something more symbolic like an animal/shape that represents them is up to your interpretation!
-
(This is required for the prize pool!)
-
-
-
-
Are there complexity/height restrictions?
-
No, however, within competition large and/or complex characters may be shrunk/simplified by opponents in the round entry.
-
-
Age Requirements for Characters?
-
Whilst no set age requirement is established, please consider the themes and content provided in a setting like this (more applicable if a character is a minor).
-
-
Overpowered Characters Concerns?
-
If your character seems OP, feel free to run them by us!
-
-
Why aren’t written entries accepted?
-
Comics and Literature are not comparable mediums for us to judge- setting requirements for each could sway favor one way or the other, so written entries will not be considered for the roster (but are totally allowed in spectator entries!!)
-
-
What’s the rating for this OCT? What kind of content can I show
-
Content demographic rating 16+ [pirates and all that.]
-
We allow for the following content (and if you’re concerned about a particular aspect of your work being outside of that’s outlined, please contact a judge to look over):
-
-Violence/Moderate Gore [include a warning at the beginning of your entry for the latter, if incorporated]
-Death [Requires permission from your opponent/collaborating artist]
-Drugs/Alcohol [We ask these aren’t extremely glorified/romanticized. These are messy topics- don’t treat your character taking drugs as a ‘power boost’ or being intoxicated 24/7 as something healthy and normal.]
-Innuendos/Sex jokes [In moderation, so long as they keep a PG-13+ wording]
-Showing Skin [include censors when/if needed. NSFW content/fetish material is strictly prohibited. If you need further clarification on what you can/can’t include, please contact a judge.]

Hateful imagery/dialogue [Including slurs, hate symbols, etc] WILL NOT BE PERMITTED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
-
What’s the rating for the discord? What can I talk about in chat?
-
Similar outline to entry content- we may police repeated lewd remarks or sensitive topics.
-
Punishment is usually dealt with case-by-case, but there is a 2-strike system in place as well. 1st strike may revoke privileges in voice chat or a time-out from chatting in text channels. 2nd strike would put the individual on an extreme watch from the judges- any 3rd infraction may then result in a ban.
-
-
How are matchups decided?
-
Competitors will be matched up randomly with one another.
-
-
Is social media [i.e. Twitter or Discord] required?
-
At least a discord account is required to join. The judge team needs a way to contact competitors and vice versa.
-
Your round may be uploaded elsewhere, provided you’re able to link/post it into the discord and google form for easy accessibility.
-
-
What do we require in your round?
-
You and your opponent’s characters’ interacting in a situation or conflict relating to the OCT’s premise/optional prompts.
-
-
How long are auditions?
-
November (1st-ish) till December (21st-ish with 3 days grace). We intend to announce the roster and begin Round 1 by January at the latest!
-
-
If I have trouble making the deadline- What do I do?
-
DM us ASAP to make sure we can make amends for grace to upload. (This is why a discord account is required!) Uploading late with no prior explanation will lead to a discussion between the competitor and the judges, possibly facing disqualification.
